It has been quite some time since I’ve added a new post to my blog. Not that I have any expecatations that I have a group of followers just salivating at the thought of another post.
I actually did try to post new content several months ago, and after updating hugo and the related Poison theme… something broke. And I couldn’t figure it out right away. Out of my own frustrations, I set it aside, and the back burner became the back of the closet. Perhaps the back of the storage unit.
Realistically, I don’t have a tremendous amount of free time to dedicate to problems like this in my personal projects, but recently I felt inclined to finally make things right. I took advantage of this time to rethink how I wanted to go about managing the content for this site (such as finally using Github in a meaningful way) as well as ensuring that I take better precautions when making updates in the future.
For the time being, I don’t know how frequently I’ll make new posts, or even what direction I intend to take the blog in, but I do know that I’ve enjoyed working through the troubleshooting process and getting things working again.
Update: January 18, 2025
I wrote this post before actually getting the site live again, and had the fun experience of forgetting a few crucial steps. I’m happy to report that I’ve got that sorted and am testing some scripting I’ve created to make the update process even simpler. Fingers crossed.
Update 2: January 18, 2025 (later the same day)
The script I wrote to pull content updates from github to the remote server, and then move them to the correct place with appropriate file permssions and ownership worked like a charm. Much success!
