What's a Linux?

Series: Journey To Tech

The first few days of training were much like drinking from a fire hose. Not only did I have no experience with Linux, I had no experience with MacOS either.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not tech illiterate. Between consumer electronics and mobile phone sales, I have always been surrounded by tech in some form. There was a time where I went to a tech school and actually knew Windows really well. The aptitude to learn was there.

We moved quickly through a Linux crash course before learning the company’s systems, policies, and communications styles. To learn how to use Linux in order to troubleshoot infrastructure and potential customer issues in a matter of weeks is certainly a daunting task. However, it is not insurmountable.

Thankfully, I already had a couple decades worth of customer service under my belt to make the communicating with customers piece of this come naturally. Learning to write replies to support tickets in such a way that eliminated all of my typical sales-influenced language was a slight adjustment. In no time, I was pumping out great responses for customers and solving issues that I never knew existed.
